Sleep Green in the Green Mountain State
The Chester Vermont Innkeepers Association has just become the first lodging association in the United States to designate all of its hotels as green hotels, Park Light Inn owner Jo-Ann Jorgenson recently told Travel Mole.
The Association, which is comprised of B&Bs, motels, and inns, unanimously voted last November to become green certified and follow the eight standards as set by the Vermont Business Environmental Partnership. This means that all of Chester’s hotels have made the switch to being green, and are now buying environment-friendly cleaning and bath products, conserving energy and water, and recycling and composting waste material, among other eco-friendly practices.
According to Travel Mole, there are 300 hotels nationwide that participate in the Green Hotel program. Sixty-five of those are in Vermont, 40 of the 65 are green hotel certified, and 14 of those are in Chester.
For other green hotels and businesses in Vermont, check out the VBEP’s website. For a summary of green hotels programs in other states, check out this article from Green Lodging News.
