The Great White Way Goes Green

June 19, 2008

Even though the Tony Awards are over, there’s still reason to celebrate on Broadway. Last week, members of the New York theater community and the Natural Resources Defense Council had a joint meeting to discuss how the Great White Way can begin going green. Inspired by An Inconvenient Truth, producer David Stone said that they’ve already implemented changes to offices associated with Wicked (cutting down on paper use, replacing lightbulbs, and creating better disposal for hazardous waste). And the rest of Broadway is ready to follow suit. The NRDC has already been successful in  “greening” the Oscars, and we’re looking forward to when the stars of stage will be able to see their names up in LED lights.
