Andrew Evans

Andrew Evans always dreamed of going to Antarctica. How he’d get there was another story. So he came to us with an idea: He’d take the bus. The rest, as they say, is history.

Those of you who followed along with Andrew during his 10-week, 10,000 mile Bus2Antarctica journey learned to love the funny, poignant, and poetic missives he sent out from his ongoing Twitter feed. You eagerly awaited his blog posts, which fleshed out the journey, and were overjoyed at watching his videos documenting playful penguins (and his ongoing beard growth). Then of course, it seemed the entire world became obsessed with his black penguin sighting.

Andrew told us how much having a following of readers helped him through the lonely parts of his journey; your questions and support made him feel much closer to home (and the T-shirt and Girl Scout cookies from Sara Hemenway’s sixth grade class in Hutto, Texas–@6thgradersrule–also helped). Now he’s back in Washington D.C., putting the finishing touches on his last blog posts and working on his upcoming feature for the magazine, which will appear later this year. But we didn’t feel like things were quite finished yet.

So to say thanks and let you hear the full story of Andrew’s journey, we’ll be hosting a virtual TweetUp (or a webinar if you will) on Monday, April 12 at 8 p.m., EST. Andrew will be giving a presentation about his travels, and you’ll be able to ask questions and learn more about the trip.

If you can’t make the webinar, don’t dismay, as we’ll be sure to post the entire session online. Want a sneak peek? Andrew will join Karen Copeland, Antarctic expert and expedition leader for Lindblad Expeditions, tonight, March 31st, at 8 p.m. EST. Get the full details here.
