The World is a Book
“…and those who do not travel read only one page.”
St. Augustine
Travel-loving bookworms take heart: Online bookseller Better World Books has extended their Labor Day book sale through today, Wednesday, September 15th, in celebration of International Literacy Day.
Better World Books is a creative and responsible global bookstore that collects and sells books (both online, at their store in Indiana, and under bright blue awnings from Lilith Fair to the Decatur Book Festival) in order to fund worldwide literacy initiatives. After choosing from over six million new and used titles, your books are sent to your door via carbon neutral shipping and with zero fees (or for $3.97 shipping outside the U.S.). You even get an email from your novels letting you know that they are happily on their way.
See an example email after the jump.
What’s more, every year, Better World Books has a tradition of randomly selecting about twelve employees, “from the forklift operator to the CFO,” to travel abroad and witness first-hand the way the organization is impacting real people and real schools. This year’s group went from “beautiful South Africa to emotionally-stirring Uganda” (where BWB works alongside Invisible Children), and they blogged about their travels along the way.
So why not pick out one of our books from our Ultimate Travel Library, or a selection from our Trip Lit columnist Don George? You can get inspired for your next trip while helping others around the world learn to love reading.
