Mr. Blobby Needs a Meme

He’s been in and out of the news since being discovered back in 2003, but if we were the betting type, we would wager that Mr. Blobby could very well be the next internet meme. He’s a fathead sculpin fish that’s now being touted as one of the 6,000 creatures discovered during the decade-long Census of Marine Life study, which wrapped up this Monday. Social media has recently bounced Mr. Blobby back into the headlines: He now has a Facebook page

with nearly 1,000 followers, and we’re sure he’ll have his own Twitter account before you know it.

If you want to see Mr. Blobby for yourself, you can do so at Sydney’s Australian Museum, which has preserved him in their Ichthyology Collection. They recently were able to secure him a joint interview with Sue (the T-Rex at Chicago’s Field Museum) where he discussed the challenges of being a popular museum attraction in the digital age: “I know I don’t have a spine, but I do believe strongly in speaking my mind, taking a stand when need be and generally being an all-round jolly and informative fellow. And, yes, flexibility is the key!”

How can you not find him absolutely meme-worthy? Perhaps you could pose him next to Sad Keanu or Cigar Guy? Either way he doesn’t look happy at the prospect.
