Returning home with artistic travel photos once meant lugging along a few thousand dollars worth of camera equipment or hours spent on the computer in post-production processing. But then, came the iPhone.

Now, from vintage to groovy, pop art to panoramic, whatever your imagination craves, there’s an app to help create stylistic photos. These photo apps for iPhone (or iPod Touch) let you click and tap your way to hip, artsy, professional-style photographs.

Learn more about a few of my favorite photo apps in the gallery above.

And once you’re hooked, keep up with the latest and greatest at iPhoneography.com or push your creative edge with The Art of iPhoneography, both great resources for mobile creativity.

Do you have a favorite photo app? Tell us about it in the comments section below.

I love Retro Camera and Old Camera. Old Camera lets you take a photo then shows it through several filters. Retro Camera lets you choose the camera first then take the photo. But I agree with the addictive factor of Hipstamatic.

One great iPhone app for travelers who take a lot of photos with their iPhone is Photo Stats. It analyzes all photos on your iPhone and creates a cool infographics about how, when and where you took your photos and you can share it on facebook and twitter.

Hi Ellen, I love the Hipstamatic app! Hipstamatic and Camera+ are two of my most used apps.

We actually make a great app for travel photography called Postagram, which basically takes any photos on your iPhone and easily send them as postcards. Each Postagram is only $.99 from anywhere to anywhere and we handle everything. I use it all the time, but it’s especially great for keeping in touch with friends while traveling. http://postagramapp.com/

Snapseed for iPad works great for travel photos. You can edit, enhance, frame and post to social media or email. Just used it for 3 weeks traveling in Italy. Loved the pics!
