#FriFotos: The Water is Wide

July 20, 2012

This week’s #FriFotos theme is LAKES, and what’s better than a cool dip in fresh water in the summer? This photo captures two Laborator Retrievers, Abbie and Coal, as they race to be the first one to fetch a stick floating in the waters of Lake Chelan, the largest natural lake in Washington State.

A big shout out to Shannon Burns for catching this classic lake moment, and submitting it to National Geographic’s My Shot photo community!

This glacier-fed lake is also one of America’s deepest. In fact, the word Chelan is derived from the Salish Indian word Tsi – Laan, meaning “deep water.” National Geographic Traveler featured Lake Chelan, along with seven other idyllic lake escapes, in its June/July 2012 issue.
