#FriFotos: I’m Only Sleeping

We could have gone any number of ways with this week’s #FriFotos theme, FALL. Fall as in autumn, fall as in waterfall. But what about fall as in fall asleep?

We couldn’t resist this adorable photograph of a soon-to-be-snoozing arctic fox that Halfdan Helgi Helgason managed to capture on Bear Island in Svalbard, the northernmost part of Norway.

These hardy animals can survive temperatures as low as -58° F, owing in part to their thick tails, furry soles, and a coat that changes with the weather (this fox is well on its way to a full-on winter white).

Thanks to Halfdan for submitting this sweet shot to our My Shot community!

There is a wonderful Swedish expression which sums this up: sova räv, which means fox sleep. It’s the one eye open, one eye closed sleep of little kids on christmas morning, or of little foxes ready to pounce at any moment!
