Québec City native Pamela MacNaughtan left her career behind to pursue her dream of long-term travel in 2010, and hasn’t looked back. This self-proclaimed “bacon addict” isn’t only led by her taste buds; she’s also attracted to the unusual and adventurous side of life on the road. She’s toured working brothels and road tripped from Prague to Turkmenistan, but Canada has her heart. Here are a few of Pamela’s favorite things about the place she calls home.
My husband Ish and I thought we were adventurous people, but once our sons came into the picture, things felt a lot more risky. What if something happened to us out there? Or worse, what if some horrible parenting decision we made led to harm coming to one of our kids? Then we learned to let go–and it was the best thing for all of us.
I found myself in the Canadian countryside for the first time, poised to have a deeper, more authentic Québécois experience in the French-speaking Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. Don’t worry if you don’t speak French; a love of nature seems to be a universal language there.
