Strange Planet: Souvenir Kitsch

In perfect timing with the British royal wedding, which has spawned loads of horrific swag like “Kate stole my husband” underwear, is the launch of the website Crap Souvenirs, which provides a forum for travelers to laud or castigate the kitsch collected from our travels.

You either love or hate the tacky souvenirs sold in airport gift shops and sidewalk stands.  As the site’s photo editor, Doug Lansky (of the similar Signspotting) explains, “When it comes to kitsch commemorative crap, most of us take the sensible route and walk right by it. But clearly there are boatloads of tourists who buy it and keep these vendors and souvenir designer/producers  in business. If you dare to take a closer look, and do so armed with a sense of humor, you’ll occasionally stumble across a gem — a souvenir so painfully tacky you find it hard to hold back a smile.”

Check out some of our favorite crap souvenirs from the site in the photo gallery above.
