Ride Japan’s Bullet Train with our Digital Nomad
All right everybody. So tonight (for you North Americans)–and tomorrow 9/8 I’ll be live-tweeting the ENTIRE bullet train, start to finish. — @WheresAndrew
All aboard! Our Digital Nomad Andrew Evans is hopping on Japan’s bullet train TONIGHT, riding the length of the superfast rail network in its present entirety from the northernmost point of Honshu to the southernmost point of Kyushu, and he’ll be live-tweeting the whole journey. Join him on his adventure, starting at 7:28 p.m. Eastern Time, by following his tweets on Twitter (@WheresAndrew) and participate by asking him questions using the hashtag #Japaninaday.
Want to know more about Andrew’s epic train trip? Here are some fast facts about Japan’s high-speed rail:
- The bullet train (Shinkansen) is one of the fastest trains in the world, traveling at speeds up to 275.2mph.
- Shinkansen is also the longest in the world, traveling 2,000.8 km or 1,250.5 miles, which is the flight distance from Washington, DC to Houston, TX.
- In 1964 the first line of the bullet train netwas constructed. The inaugural Tokaido/Sanyo Line runs parallel to the original Tokaido Road– a major trade route built during the Edo period that connected Osaka and Kyoto with Tokyo.
