Use care when crossing this 200+ year old bridge: it has no handrails. (Photograph by Nang Ying Aung, My Shot)

#FriFotos: Under the Bridge

September 07, 2012

This week’s #FriFotos theme is BRIDGES — and this one’s a doozy. U Pain (or U Bein) was built well over 200 years ago out of teak logs to connect the two banks of the Taungthaman Lake with the town of Amarapura in Myanmar (Burma). Visitors to Mandalay can take a break from dusty, noisy city life by taking a short taxi ride to see the sun set from this remarkable bridge. But you’d better have good balance — there are no handrails!

Thanks to Nang Ying Aung, who captured this glorious moment and shared it with our My Shot community.

#FriFotos is a weekly themed Twitter chat founded by @EpsteinTravels, @TravelDesigned and @CharlesYap where travelers share their favorite pics. Search #FriFotos on Twitter to see the latest submissions or tweet one of your own.
