    When I first saw the photo at the top of the post I though it looked familiar. My dad (the State Geologist of Nevada) travelled to Whakaari a few years ago on a geology/geothermal energy fieldtrip with the University of Auckland and brought back pictures that looked exactly like this.
    Unfortunately I was unable to visit this amazing island myself while studying abroad in Wellington, New Zealand in 2011. But I plan to get back there as soon as possible.
